Good Lesbian Books: Lesbian Young Adult Fiction

Lesbian (and bisexual) girls have tragically little young adult fiction to themselves. According to recent research by YA author Malinda Lo, about 0.25% of published YA books in the US are about lesbians. And yet, for such a short list of works, it was surprisingly hard to track them all down - there are plenty of GLBT YA lists, but these tend not to actually separate out the lesbian books, and to be dominated by gay male stories.

I’ve been trying to read more queer books, and it’s so hard to find anything that isn’t m/m fantasy.

I mean, I get it. I do. But I’d like to see stuff with f/f as the main romance, not off to the side or half-mentioned or what.

I just want queer ladies and dragons, is that so bad.

I really need to find that lesbian fantasy novel I started. It has dragons and lady knights and a feisty princess getting pissed that someone was sent to “save” her. And lady kisses. Lots and lots of lady kisses.

And when you find it, come straight back and tell us what it’s called, cause that sounds awesome and I don’t think we have it.

Oh I meant started WRITING. Ha ha

Oh well, in that case you better finish it. Because there aren’t any books with lesbian knights and from-dragon-rescuing out there. Also that explained why I couldn’t find it.
